A tap point is only useful if a customer can actually use it. Most stands are placed with the average customer in mind, which quietly excludes older customers, people with low vision, wheelchair users and anyone without a recent phone. A few small choices fix most of that.
Height and reach
A stand on a high counter is out of reach for a customer in a wheelchair and awkward for shorter customers. If you have a lower section of counter, put a stand there too, or choose a spot a seated person can reach without stretching. Tiles and discs on a table are often easier than a stand on a tall counter.
Contrast and text size
Clear, high contrast printing and a readable call to action help customers with low vision know what the stand is for. Avoid placing a stand where glare from windows or downlights washes out the print or the QR code.
Always offer two routes
NFC and QR fail in different ways. NFC needs a compatible phone with NFC switched on. QR needs a working camera and decent light. Every stand and card we make carries both, so a customer who cannot use one can usually use the other. See NFC or QR: which one your customers actually use.
Some customers need neither
Not everyone has a smartphone, and not everyone wants to use one at your counter. For those customers, the review link in an email or on a receipt is a better route. And some customers will simply tell you they were happy, which is worth just as much to you. See seven places to put your review link.
Help without taking the phone
If a customer asks for help, show them where to tap on their own phone or point at the QR. Staff should not take a customer’s phone to write or submit a review for them. The review has to be the customer’s own.
Keep the path clear
A stand that sits behind a display or a queue barrier is invisible to anyone who cannot lean over. Stand where your customers stand, including from a seated position, and check what they can actually see and reach. See where to put a review stand.
