Wedding and event businesses have an unusual problem. Every client is a one off, the stakes for them are enormous, and the next couple will read every word the last one wrote. A florist or photographer with forty detailed reviews wins bookings a competitor with four will never see.

The timing problem

On the day itself, nobody is writing a review. The couple is busy, the vendor is working, and the moment is about the event, not about you. Then the day ends and everyone goes home, and the enthusiasm fades a little each week.

The trick is to catch the two moments where a client is both happy and free to act.

Moment one: the delivery

Photographers delivering the gallery, videographers delivering the film, planners doing the final wrap up. This is often weeks after the event, and it is the second emotional peak. The couple is seeing the day again, through your work. Put the review link in the delivery message, and if you hand over anything physical, include a card.

Moment two: the next morning

For vendors whose work finishes on the day, such as caterers, venues, florists and hire companies, the first day or two afterwards is the window. A short message saying thank you, with the link, catches the family while they are still talking about it.

Where a card fits

What makes an event review useful

The reviews that sell are specific: they name the vendor, the venue, what went wrong and how it was handled. You cannot write those for people, but you can make it easier. “It would be lovely if you mentioned the venue and anything that stood out” is a fair, neutral nudge. Asking them to say it was perfect is not.

The rules still apply

A discount on prints or a free extra hour in return for a review is an incentive, and Google bans them. Asking only the couples who seemed thrilled is gating. And reviews from family, friends or other vendors you work with are conflicts of interest. The detail is in asking for reviews without breaking the rules.

Replying matters more in this industry

Couples read the replies. A warm reply to a glowing review and a calm one to a disappointed review tell them exactly what you will be like to deal with on the day. See replying to good reviews and replying to a bad one.
