Play centres, animal farms, swim schools, party venues and holiday programs live on one kind of recommendation more than any other: one parent telling another it was worth it. Google reviews are that conversation, happening in public, read by every parent planning a weekend.

Parents read reviews differently

A parent checking a family venue is not mainly looking at the star rating. They are scanning for specific things: is it clean, is it safe, is there coffee, is there parking for a pram, will a two year old be bored, is it worth the entry price. Reviews that mention those details are the ones that convert, and they come from parents who were asked at the right moment.

The right moment is not the exit

Leaving is the worst time to ask a parent anything. There is a tired child, a bag, a car seat and a meltdown about leaving. The better moments are in the middle of the visit:

Put the tap point where parents sit, not where they queue.

Surviving small hands

Anything at a child’s eye level will be touched, moved, licked or thrown. Keep stands at adult table height, fix discs and tiles to surfaces rather than leaving them loose, and avoid the entry counter if children crowd it. An adhesive tile on the parents’ cafe table is often the most durable option.

What to say

If the kids have had a good day, tapping that leaves us a Google review. Other parents really do read them.

“Other parents read them” is honest, and it is the reason most parents will actually do it.

Follows matter for venues too

Holiday program dates, weather closures, new animals, party availability. Parents who follow you hear about it first. A follow stand near the parents’ seating works well alongside the review stand. See getting Instagram and TikTok follows in person.

Photos and privacy

Parents often post photos with their reviews, and some of those include children. That is their choice on their own review. When you reuse reviews or photos in your own marketing, never use images of children without clear permission from the parent, and do not identify children in replies. The general approach to reusing reviews is in you have the reviews, now put them to work.

No freebies for reviews

It is tempting to offer a free entry or a free babycino for a review. Google bans incentivised reviews outright. Ask everyone the same way and leave it there. See asking for reviews without breaking the rules.
